The curriculum is based on client-centered, problem-solving methods using case studies to give a hands-on approach to the material. The focus is on analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating the always evolving financial planning process with insurance, investment planning, income tax planning, retirement planning, employee benefits, estate planning, portfolio management and pre-retirement planning. • The Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) is a professional designation for financial advisors who specialize in comprehensive financial planning awarded by the American College of Financial Services which was founded in 1927. The ChFC® designation supplies insights and knowledge on financial planning, wealth accumulation, retirement income planning, risk management, tax strategies for individuals, small businesses, and corporations, business succession, investments, estate planning, special needs planning, divorce, and behavioral finance.

The ChFC® is similar to the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation in that they both prepare professionals to offer full-scope financial planning while requiring experience and ongoing education. However, the ChFC® includes additional coursework, especially around modern financial issues. CFP® is more widely marketed and recognized by the public, while ChFC® is highly respected within the industry, especially among insurance and advanced planning professionals.

According to a U.S. News & World Report article published in 2024, the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) designation is one of the 10 Best Financial Certifications for financial professionals.

  • The Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) designation, sponsored by Fi360, and created in 2002, certifies that a financial professional has been trained to follow a defined, prudent process when managing or advising on investments. It emphasizes the importance of fiduciary responsibility—acting solely in the best interest of clients or retirement plan participants. AIF® designees are equipped to help organizations meet legal and ethical standards, particularly under regulations like ERISA. This designation is especially valuable for those managing retirement plans, foundations, or institutional assets, as it reduces risk, promotes transparency, and ensures decisions are well-documented and defensible.

The best way to protect families from the potential devastation of long-term care is not to sell a product, but rather, offer advice that leads to a plan to mitigate those consequences and when appropriate, recommend long-term care insurance as a funding source for that plan. The designation has been recognized and supported by The American College, CFP Board, NAIFA, NAHU and major insurance carriers.
  • The Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor℠ (CRPC®) designation, awarded by the College for Financial Planning®, equips financial professionals with specialized expertise in guiding clients through all stages of retirement. The curriculum includes strategies for maximizing the client experience, investing for retirement, understanding Social Security, military, and government benefits, identifying additional income sources, navigating healthcare options, designing optimal retirement income streams, managing the emotional and financial transition to retirement, achieving tax and estate planning objectives, and adhering to fiduciary, ethical, and regulatory standards. 2. NAPA's core purpose is to enhance retirement security in America.
    3. NAPA members focus on providing high quality, professional advice to retirement plans and/or their participants.
    4. NAPA members are committed to leading the transition to a more transparent, effective, professionally governed retirement system.
    5. NAPA members may serve as either fiduciaries or non-fiduciaries, but are committed to clearly disclosing their fiduciary or non-fiduciary status to their ERISA retirement plan clients.
    6. NAPA members pledge to comply with all requirements relating to retirement plans that are or will be required by the SEC, DOL, or any other governing agencies.
    7. NAPA members pledge to maintain ethical standards in their representation of plan sponsor and participant clients and will strive to service them under a process that puts their clients' interests first.

Membership offers three valuable benefits: advocacy, business intelligence, and networking – all designed to keep plan advisors in the forefront of the industry and help them succeed.
